About me…
As a High School Student in Orange County, my friends, classmates and I often discussed how difficult it was to find relevant and meaningful volunteering opportunities in our community. Most volunteering websites and community boards seem to cater to those over 18 during normal business hours with few if any opportunities for students.
As a student in the IB Program, I know most colleges and university admission boards require volunteer hours. With such limited opportunities, I knew there must be a way to gather bright, young students, and driver them organizations and business that are willing to help. Through association with these organizations, ambitious future leaders can help make an impact in our community before they travel elsewhere.
So, in an effort to help my peers in the student community, I developed this website to connect students with the organizations they care about most. This is a work in progress. I started on notebooks, moved to spreadsheets and now transitioning to a virtual environment to capture even more opportunities. The site may not be perfect but I am hopeful it works to help others connect. So far, my site has even grown to encapsulate adult-orientated events as there has been some demand from parents of students to start volunteering on their own too.
I am hopeful it becomes a useful tool to bridge the gap with those struggling with the same competing priorities, academics, chores, and homework with the will, want, and desire to be accepted to the school, or to accomplish greatness in their own ways. Perhaps my ideas shown here can cause volunteers to even create their own community-centered events in the future.
